Deptford is Changing by Anita Strasser contains essays, interviews, poetry, song lyrics, hand-written comments, drawings, paintings, models, maps and artworks of all kinds and 400 photographs – all in response to the changing face of Deptford. The content was produced in dialogue with over 160 residents.
It is a book that documents and critically analyses the struggles that local residents are up against due to unjust social change and regeneration, but it also celebrates the amazing community spirit in the area that speaks of an ethics of care and social solidarity that is so typical of Deptford. The idea was to provide local residents with a platform for their voices and experiences and give people the opportunity to define for themselves what Deptford and life in Deptford means to them.

Garry Lengthorn's Story is read by Alice Lemmard. Alice went to Rachel McMillan Nursery School in Deptford and grew up living on the Greenwich side of Creek Road. She currently lives in Lewisham and works in The Library in Deptford Lounge as a Community Engagement Team Senior Library Assistant which is where she met Anita Strasser. Alice considers Deptford is Changing a 'Wonderfully put together book with real insights into the people I see every day, nice to uncover their stories and see Deptford from other people’s perspectives. Deptford is changing and I am proud to be a part of that.'

Anita Strasser's PhD in Visual Sociology (Goldsmiths) looked at the regeneration of Deptford and how people, who have been living and/or been involved in community work here for some time, experience these changes.
She researched and worked with local communities in the area from 2009. Anita comments on her blog "What I have also found are the incredibly strong community networks and friendships, noticeable in the volume of amazing volunteering work and joint campaigning that takes place in this area. Another thing that has become apparent is that people are not anti-regeneration or against progress – far from it! What people are against is their communities not being considered or consulted but instead being broken up. They are against the kind of change that caters for the desires of a certain population and not for the needs of others; the kind of change that is solely powered by capital and big profits; the kind of change that leads to social polarisation and inequality."
