ByJake Weatherill from Lewisham Branch
Hello all! So I felt that after writing about Marvel Heroes Origins last week I should, in the interest of fairness of course, write about someone from DC. Luckily my favourite hero is Batman!
Now finding a kid friendly Batman story has been a bit tricky. As I have been working behind the scenes at Lewisham again I decided to have a look through the shelves. That's where I found what I was looking for.
My brother and I were born in the early nineties, and we're the youngest of our cousins by quite a bit. The good thing about this is that we got loads of cool eighties hand-me-downs. VHS's (ask your parents). Books. Toys.
It certainly played a big part in me being the geek I am today. It also introduced me to The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. When I saw Batman & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the shelf I thought why not give it a try?
We find ourselves in New York City, home to the Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles. Abandoned in a sewer as baby turtles, they are exposed to
radioactive waste causing them to start to mutate. Found by a Rat named
Splinter who had also been exposed to the same radioactive waste he
takes them in and raises them. As they get older Splinter trains the
turtles in the way of the Ninja so they can stand up to the mysterious
Shredder.
Coming to The Big Apple is Batman. Billionaire Bruce Wayne watched his parents murdered in front of him as a child in his home of Gotham City. Swearing vengeance and to fight for justice when he gets older Bruce travels the world to train under the greatest detectives, most formidable fighters and brightest minds. Upon his return to Gotham he decides to don a cape and cowl. Batman is born.
Ok, so he is also not coming to New York alone. He is accompanied by his loyal sidekicks, Robin the Boy Wonder and Batgirl. What brings the Bat Family to the city that never sleeps?
Well Batman villain The Mad Hatter has been causing havoc, and has headed to NYC. With Batman after him in the city of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, what happens?
This is a fun read, and a great way to dip your toe into the world of comics.
Double the heroes = double the action. That's why I am giving Batman and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 7.75/10.
