View of St Paul’s- Cathy Myers

We are hosting an exhibition, as part Lewisham Libraries' activities for International Women's Day which celebrates the creativity, talent and skill of women photographers based in South East London.
The exhibition will be held at Lewisham Civic Suite 10.00-3.00, on Thursday March 8th 2018. It will be held as part of the event Vote, Participate, Organise.

Libraries will have some great new stock (including electronic resources) for the public and the six invited schools to borrow there and then, along with a fiendish picture quiz and information about other IWD and Suffrage 100 celebrations in our libraries, including the display about local suffragettes currently at the Local History and Archives Centre. Jill Mountford will also speak about working women’s contribution to suffrage in the Mayor’s Parlour just after midday.

Blooms on black number 2  - Nenne Van Dijk

Three have direct connections to Lewisham, either living or working within the Borough. Some of the photographers are acknowledged experts in their field, winning international recognition and are Fellows of the Royal Photographic Society. Others are relative newcomers to photography. All are passionate about the creative freedom that photography gives them and enjoy the process of creating an image.
There are no particular themes within the work being exhibited. Each photographer has given one, two or three photographs that they have chosen from amongst their work – so you will see a picture of the natural world alongside a portrait and “straight-out-of-camera” images next to photographs that have been altered to create works of art.

Time Traveller - Angela Ford

We hope that you enjoy looking at the photographs. If you are interested in photography, or if you are a photographer yourself, you might like to come and meet some of us. All the photographers whose work is on show here are members of Beckenham Photographic Society – a friendly camera club, open to everyone. We meet every Wednesday night from September to May at St John’s Church Hall in Beckenham from 8 – 10 pm and are always pleased to make new friends.
