Roald Dahl day in Deptford Library

Today, the 13th of September is Roald Dahl Day. On this day, Roald Dahl's birthday is celebrated by many throughout the world.
Roald Dahl (1916–1990) was one of the world’s most imaginative, successful and loved storytellers.

He is best known for his children's stories many of which have been made into films.

You can find out more about his life by reading his biography in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography which is free with your library card.

In the Library @Deptford Lounge we hosted an event for children to celebrate it.

There was a Treasure Hunt and Craft activities followed by a film screening of Matilda.

Over 50 children and their parents attended.

They decorated Will Wonka hats and bowties.
For the treasure hunt, children had to find 11 pictures cunningly hidden around the library.

Once they had found the photo they completed the title of a Roald Dahl book.

There were many children rushing about keen to be the first to finish the Treasure Hunt and collect their prize. There were even a few adults too!

To collect the prize, the children had to answer one last, fiendishly difficult question.

What were the things you could find in Mr Twits beard?

The answers we received were worms, fish bones, birds, cornflakes, dust and spaghetti.

The children then settled in to watch a screening of Matilda, a film based on one of Roald Dahl's books.

Here is a list of all his books, most of which you can find in our libraries! Rember we have many of these in our eBook collections as well.
